Sure, we told you to stay away from certain mountain destination in Colorado if budget is your main concern. But that does not mean you have to avoid the state altogether. Colorado has its fair share of ski resort towns to choose from, and some of these are actually affordable, like the town of Leadville.
Maybe you’ve never heard of Leadville, but that is likely to change in the near future. More and more people from all over the country are purchasing property here, since it is beautiful while also being affordable. Currently there are less than 3,000 residents, but this number is risking quickly. It would be in your best interest to purchase a property here before property prices go up exponentially.
Crestline, California
Crestline isn’t the traditional mountain town, but it is just as beautiful as any other. This is the ideal spot if you’re looking for a year round residence rather than just a vacation spot. Crestline is just 20 minutes from the larger San Bernardino but it feels as if you’re in the middle of nowhere. You’ll get the peace and quiet you’re hoping for while also having easy access to larger Cali towns and major cities.
Ogden, Utah
Another affordable mountain town out west, Ogden in Utah is referred to as the “gateway” to some of the most prestigious mountain ranges of the area. It is a short drive to Salt Lake City and directly next to 170,000 acres of lush national forest. There are tons of opportunities for outdoor adventures in Ogden. Even if you just want to relax by the fireside indoors, you’ll love the stunning scenery seen through the window pane.
Boone, North Carolina
The first destination outside of the western United States to make this list, the North Carolina town of Boone is as budget-friendly as you can get. It’s ideal for young individuals wanting a small-town feel but hoping for a trendy vibe as well. You can do everything from horseback riding to mountain climbing to canoeing in and around Boone.
Idaho Falls, Idaho
Idaho Falls is the closest metropolitan destination to the Yellowstone National Park entrance. This means you get the best of both worlds, city and mountain, and you can go from one to the other at the drop of a hat.
