With everyday exposure to the harmful sun rays, pollution, and stress, keeping ourselves beautiful and young-looking is sometimes a hard thing to do. As we age, we always dream of aging gracefully. We often get amazed with celebrities and influencers with beautiful skin.
It may seem like we have to spend a lot of money to keep our skin happy but there are simple ways we can do to have a beautiful and young-looking skin.
Get enough zzzs.
Yes, it may sound cliché yet there are still many people who neglect doing this. Some people think of sleep as a luxury and not a necessity. However, getting enough sleep doesn’t just help you recharge from a hard day’s work. It also helps your skin repair and regenerate. Don’t get shocked if you look older because of the dark circles under your eyes. The skin around the eyes are the most delicate and sleep deprivation can cause the tissues around it to darken and look puffy.
To help you get rid of eyebags and dark circles, you may apply fresh cucumber slices on your eyes. Leave them on for at least 10 minutes before rinsing with cold water. If you’re too busy to add this in your nighttime routine, you can instead purchase an effective eye cream for dark circles that is readily-available on beauty stores.
Also, make sure to make your bedroom cozy enough. Go for the most comfortable pillows and blankets. You may also spray lavender-scented essential oils for a more relaxing vibe.
Take a break and de-stress.
Stress brings a great impact in our life – and that includes our skin’s appearance. Whenever we’re stressed or exhausted, the level of cortisol in our body increases causing our acne and other skin problems to worsen. You may be too busy finishing that project or handling other important stuff, but this shouldn’t be a reason to neglect your skin and overall well-being. Don’t let stress interfere with taking care of your skin.
No matter how busy you are with life, take a break. Get up on your office chair and walk around the nearest park during lunch break if you want some fresh air. Order your favorite espresso and enjoy the smell of the relaxing coffee aroma. Practice stress management and take a nap if needed.
Part of de-stressing is taking care of your skin. Build a skincare routine that fits you. Make sure that it matches you and your skin type. While many people take a 10-step skincare routine, the basic cleanse-tone-moisturize is enough to make your skin happy. Just add sunscreen to your morning skincare routine and you’re good to go.
Limit sugar and salt intake.
I know that you’ve been craving for freshly-grilled burgers and french fries with sour cream and onion dip on the side. I know you’ve been wanting to munch and finish that jar of chocolate chip cookies. But here’s the thing: You have to limit your sugar and salt intake if you want to have a beautiful and young-looking skin.
You may notice other people, especially those who take a vegan diet, possess a healthier-looking skin. If turning vegan isn’t possible for you, make sure to have a well-balanced diet. Foods rich in antioxidants play a great role in preventing your skin from having fine lines and acne breakouts. Green tea, raspberries, and blueberries are some examples of foods that are enriched with antioxidants. Fatty fish such as salmon and sardines are also good anti-aging foods. There are also better options you can choose to satisfy your cravings while keeping your skin beautiful. Dark chocolates are good if you’re craving for sweets. You can also opt for organic kale crisps and trail mixed nuts instead of finishing a pile of junk foods.
Keep yourself hydrated.
Without proper hydration, our skin will look flaky and dry. And dry skin can cause premature wrinkles. Partnered with exercise, consuming enough water a day will help in the circulation of our blood flow to nourish our skin cells. We should always aim to drink 8-glasses of water a day.
If you want your water to taste better, you can add fresh fruits such as lemon or strawberries. You may also get creative with ice. Add some herbs and spices and freeze it. You may also consume fruit juices but make sure it comes from natural ingredients. Sipping broths and soups can also add up in staying hydrated.
