For a long time, industrial work has been seen as hazardous both as a work environment and as a pollutant to the Earth. With this in mind, many industrial sectors have attempted to make advancements to improve safety and reduce pollution. Many of these tech advances are powered by a specific intent to be greener, while others were made in an effort to make things safer for workers that work in these fields.
In this post, we’ll look at some technological advances that are making things better for everyone. While industrial fields still face many challenges, and certain industries are being replaced by newer, greener solutions, it is important to note these advancements as they may have an impact on the future of all industrial work.
Filtration of Harmful Substances
Much of what is produced in the industrial sector has a habit of having nasty byproducts that accompany any useful processes. As a result, industrial waste is a major concern. One of the major advancements that have been made in recent years is in the area of filters and filtration technology.
Filtering out gases, chemicals, and other harmful things from industrial fuels and other products makes things safer for workers by reducing the risk of exposure and lowering overall contamination levels when refining or processing materials. This means fewer chances of harmful substances leaking into ground soil and causing contamination and sickness. Another benefit is that this also protects the water table of various areas. Industrial waste has been a factor in contaminating many fisheries and waterways, either accidentally or through mismanagement.
Sustainability and Disposal of Harmful Substances
Beyond filtration making it safer for production, newer materials, particularly in the building and construction industries are making production more sustainable. This is also being combined with new ways to dispose of or reuse what was once waste materials.
Materials like shingles are now being made to withstand incredible forces and last for up to 50 years in some cases. The invention of new composite materials is replacing old materials and leading to less need for disposal and waste. The addition of biodegradable materials is making what waste products are left safer for the environment.
Numerous Small Advances
Beyond all the major advancements, there have been numerous small advancements and innovations that could very well prove more beneficial than some of these larger inventions.
Reductions in the use of plastic through new sustainable materials, reusing shipping containers as housing, electricity generation from new sources, and loads more innovations are making a difference in how we live, work, and play.
While we can’t say whether this will solve all of our problems, these advancements are proof that with a little hard work and ingenuity, great things can be accomplished.
