As much as my buddy Scott Tominaga and I love football, there is something that we love just as much, and that is fantasy football. Scott and I have been playing against each other for a number of years now and in truth we have watched the FPL league grow into millions. If you enjoy football and you want to add a little extra dimension to how you enjoy the game, I would strongly recommend that you and your friend put together a little league for the 2020/21 season, and enjoy everything that fantasy football has to offer.
Explained
To those of you who may not know, fantasy football is where you pick a team of players who play in the Premier League. You will have a limited amount of cash to spend and you can only pick 3 players from the same club. You must pick 11 players and 4 players for the bench, and then you will pick a captain who gets double points. The players get points each week based on assists, goals, clean sheets, saves (for GK) and other variable such as bonuses or cards.
Thrill
Honestly once you first get involved with this you are going to see first hand just how exciting it can be and how much of a thrill it adds to the game. When one of your players scores or keeps a clean sheet, you know that those bragging rights are coming between you and a friend. There is something extra that fantasy football gives you to enjoy, beyond just watching the football.
Highs and Lows
There are so many highs and lows throughout a season, especially when it comes to transfers. Each week you are allowed 1 free transfer, or 2 if you wait another week, if you transfer someone out who then goes on to do really well it is such a heartbreak, but the you may transfer someone in who does brilliantly.
Testing
This is not just some silly game which anyone can play, it does require some knowledge of the game and it will test that knowledge. Choosing who to take a risk on if you think they’ve been playing well, or choosing who to swap out if you think that they may not even start the game, it’s all guesswork but guesswork which is informed. This is why this is such a great game to play with your friends, because it pits your footballing brains against each other.
When you play fantasy football you can set up your own mini league and battle it out amongst your friends. There will be amazing weeks to be had and there will be poor times ahead, but it is all part of the fun of this brilliant and super fan game, which is going to take your football watching to the next level, pure drama involved as each ball is kicked. Why don’t you give it a go next year?
